Site Assessment
Our goal in performing formal site assessments is to identify opportunities for your company to do its work more efficiently, thereby lowering your costs and giving you time to take on additional work and/or produce higher quality results with the same resources.otw-pic

During the assessment, we interview key people in your company to gain an understanding of how your organization functions and how your design team fits into its workflows. We look at how data moves into, through, and out of your CAD department for ways to streamline and automate those processes. We look at how your technical staff uses its CAD applications to see if we can find ways to enhance their proficiency with those tools.

We also do an assessment of your IT infrastructure. We see if your servers are properly configured and being put to their best use from a CAD perspective. We look at each of your workstations to determine whether they are properly equipped to run the software loaded on them, and that any available service packs for each application have been installed. And we check to make sure your printers and plotters are up to the tasks you demand of them.

When we’ve completed our study, we present you with a detailed written report of our findings, which includes specific recommendations on how you can improve the efficiency of your CAD department and streamline its interactions with clients, subcontractors, and other departments.

Software Installation
PacifiCAD can install new CAD applications on your company’s network with little or no down time for your users. This includes setting up the licensing system and installation tools on your server and then deploying the software to each CAD workstation where those applications will be used.

As part of this process, we can also do things like set up a library for shared resources (templates, details, materials, etc.) on your network and help you get any custom programs or user interface elements you’ve developed working with your new software

Data Management Implementation

Vault Implementation
Vault is Autodesk’s data management solution, and there are two phases to implementing it – getting the software set up properly on your network and then loading your existing drawings into the system. Tasks associated with the first phase include installing Vault’s server components and deploying Vault Explorer to each of your CAD workstations. In the second phase, it’s necessary to pool all the drawings and engineering documents you intend to vault into an organizational structure you define, clean up any problems with that data (e.g. broken references), and then upload the pooled drawings into the Vault file store. PacifiCAD can assist you with this process. In addition, we can teach you how to maintain and use your Vault.

Productstream Implementation
Productstream is similar in nature to Vault (see above), but the program has a number of additional capabilities that require configuration. Examples of this include setting up folder-level user-access permissions where required, creating routing lists for change orders, setting up your organization’s part numbering system, and so forth. PacifiCAD can help you accomplish all these tasks.

Data Migration and Cleanup
There are many circumstances where you may find you need to modify large numbers of drawings for one reason or another. Perhaps you’re moving to a new CAD platform such as Revit, Inventor, or Civil 3D. Maybe you’re implementing standards and want to update your existing drawings. Whatever the job entails, we can build custom utilities do perform the necessary task(s) across entire folder trees of drawings. If you have questions about our capabilities in this area or would like to find out more, please contact us so we can discuss your project’s requirements.

Custom Programming
If you need functionality your Autodesk CAD application doesn’t provide out of the box, PacifiCAD’s programmers can write a custom extension for the application that performs the desired tasks. All of Autodesk’s CAD products have comprehensive programming interfaces that can be tapped into using Visual Basic .NET development tools. Types of applications that can be written include automating complex or repetitive procedures, analyzing drawing information in some way, or exchanging data with other applications.
